This programme aims to make you aware of what is involved in starting your own business in Ireland. It is a practical course aiming to assist you start your own business and/or to decide whether to start your own business.

  • MODULE 1 – GETTING STARTED & SOURCES OF ASSISTANCE
    Establishing your goals
    Getting Motivated
    Successful entrepreneurs – what have they got?
    What am I getting into? (includes first draft of set-up costs)
    Up to date list of local supports available – networking and supports
    Steps involved in Starting Your Own Business
    Registering your business name – steps to starting your business(includes self assessment)
    Brief overview of business plan includes some vital operational and legal issues to consider,
    Using the internet to research issues discussed at this module

MODULE 2 – LEGAL & TAX ISSUES FOR START -UPS

  • Legal structures – company versus sole trader
    Opening a bank account
    Overview bookkeeping and record keeping requirements
    Accounting options – spreadsheets and accounting packages
    Deductible expenses and capital allowances
    VAT , PAYE/PRSI
    Taking on Employees – tax implications
    Update on recent changes in tax rules, e.g. new income levy, new start-up company exemption
    Revenue on line services (ROS)
  • MODULE 3 – FINANCE COSTING, PRICING & CASHFLOW

  • MODULE 4 - RESEARCH & OPERATIONAL ISSUES

    Prepare a market research plan,Forecasting demand for your product/service
    Using technology and internet to enhance your research
    Draft market research plan with targets
    Determining market size, identifying trends. Establishing a sales target for years 1 to 5
    Researching suppliers
    Franchising introduction
    Intellectual property rights
    Other operational issues – Health & Safety Statement, supplier profiling
  • MODULE 5 – PROMOTION & ADVERTISING
  • Customer profiling, competitior profiling, product awareness
    Drafting a promotional plan, including timeframes and costs
    The 4 P’s
    Maximising return on promotion and advertising effort
    Using the internet to market your business including:
    Maximise your business presence on the web
    Questions to ask when planning and designing your website
    Internet Marketing & Social Media
    Networking and advertising - Use word of mouth as effectively as possible
